Join Service Experts at Walk MS in Dallas and Fort Worth

March 18, 2016

There are approximately 200 people diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis weekly. Multiple Sclerosis, or MS, is an autoimmune disorder that causes the immune system to attack its own tissues or organs, resulting in nerve damage. Symptoms of MS can include tiredness, walking difficulties, vertigo, pain, and cognitive dysfunctions. One very unique symptom of MS is sensitivity to warmer temperatures. In fact, it’s reported that 60% to 80% of people who have MS show excessive sensitivity to increases in their core body temperature.

As if the sensitivity to heat wasn’t enough, the heat also intensifies other symptoms.

Since even the slightest climb in core body temperature (from .25 to .50 a degree) can cause symptoms to intensify, Service Experts Heating and Air Conditioning cares strongly about this cause. While we are always excited to be involved in our communities and give back where we can, this disorder and all the issues that come with it hold a unique place in our hearts.

Calverley Service Experts in Fort Worth will be hosting a booth at Walk MS on Saturday, April 2nd at Trinity Park in Fort Worth and Service Experts Plano, Service Experts Dallas, and Levy and Son Service Experts will be hosting a booth at Walk MS on Saturday, April 9th at Addison Circle Park in Addison. If you plan on being there, come by and say hi – we would love to see you! If you can’t make it or aren’t in the DFW area, you can always give to help raise money and awareness for the National MS Society or find a walk in your area.

Given the increasing temperatures, everyone should be careful, stay hydrated, and take a break as needed. If you or a loved one has MS, please remember these tips from the National Multiple Sclerosis Society to ease the effect of the heat:

· Remain in an air-conditioned setting during stretches of extreme heat and humidity. If an air conditioner is needed to help minimize the symptoms of MS, the cost of these systems may be tax deductible if the physician has written a prescription for it.

· Use cooling products such as vests, neck wraps, and bandanas, during exercise or outdoor activity, or pre- and post-cool.

· Wear lightweight, “breathe-able” clothing.

· Icy drinks such as “slushies” or popsicles may provide temporary relief.

· Use an oscillating fan during indoor exercise.

We are excited to help create a world free of MS and we want to thank the National Multiple Sclerosis for their non-stop work and dedication to ending this debilitating disorder. We hope to see you there!
