"The actual installation process of a new thermostat was fine. However, I am very unhappy with the sales tactics used by both Austin and the other man (dark hair) who came with him on the initial service call. Both of them misrepresented products and tried to get me to purchase more expensive equipment. My old theromstat was out of warranty and no longer serviced, according to Austin, even though my whole system is only 5 years old. So he quoted me a new Lennox thermostat for $1220. The other guy brought up the Advantage Plan, which was not available when I got my current system, and said that if I replaced everything and got the Advantage Plan, my total cost would be $230/month. When I began to ask questions about that deal, THEN he told me that I would still be paying my current $143/month on my currentl system, bringing my actual monthly cost to $373/month for the next five years, NOT $230. I agreed to the new theromstat, but Austin didn't have one on his truck, so he made an appointment to return the next morning. It occurred to me overnight to ask, "Is that the ONLY theromostat you've got?" So I called back at 7 a.m. the following morning. When I spoke to Austin, he said, "No, but it's the one that works best with your system." He did admit he had another thermostat for $750, but it "just uses WiFi." I said my current thermostat used WiFi and that was fine with me. So, my takeaway was that if I had not thought to ask, Austin would have taken advantage of my desperation to have a cool house and sold me a thermostat that was $470 more than what I got. GOOD SALESMANSHIP would have presented BOTH thermostats and let ME decide. Come to find out, the thermostat I chose has a 5 year warranty, while the "better" one only had a 1 year warranty. Oh, and by the way, Austin probably had the one I got on his truck the day he came out for the service call. My daughter and dog and I suffered another evening in a sweltering house because he wanted the higher sale. Needless, to say, I will be shopping around for service before I make another call to Eveready."
